Nicolas Rieben, a Swiss artist who is based in New York, has created a landscape environment that is constructed of disparate materials: two digital duratrans in lightboxes; an artificial tree; and a 3-minute digital video. The audience inhabits Rieben’s interpretation of a new Eden.
Rieben, a Geneva native, received his graduate degree at the Institut des Hautes Etudes en Arts Plastiques in Paris. He has had exhibitions at the Palais de l’Athenee, Geneva; the Centre d’Art de Rueil-Malmaison, Paris; and the Kunstlerhaus Dortmund, Germany. He will participate in Jello, curated by Max Henry, at the Frederieke Taylor Gallery in January; and was in I-20’s Dusk show, curated by David Hunt. He moved to New York in 1998.
