Will Cotton is a New York-based artist who paints landscapes of candies, frosting, confectioneries, and most recently, molasses swamps. For his exhibition at I-20, the artist produced an 8 x 10 ft. canvas, Devil’s Fudge Falls. Cotton’s falls are an oasis of sweetness in a steep mountain of sugar. Oreo stones and lollipop trees bask in the light of late afternoon, and in the fall’s basin a small pool of Hershey’s syrup bubbles and foams.
Cotton was born in Melrose, Massachusetts in 1965. He received his BFA from New York’s Cooper Union. In 1998 he showed at New York’s Silverstein Gallery. In 2000 Cotton will participate in The End at Exit Art, New York; and in March he will have a one-person exhibition at the Mary Boone Gallery.
